“Serious art is born from serious play!”
-Julia Cameron
What calls me to teach...
I believe that art is the imagination at play and a way to reimagine what is and what can be. Benefiting from a concentrated understanding of the child mind through designing toys, combined with my solid education in Fine Art, I have a unique way of connecting to young artists in both a playful and purposeful way. Over the years my passion has pivoted from creating for children, to creating with them, with a dedication to inspire.
As an art educator, I strive to let my students be seen, and then teach them to really see. I believe it is important for students to see themselves represented in the classroom, and accordingly, I focus on infusing diversity, inclusion, and cultural appreciation into each unit, directed with respect and honor. By infusing real world issues into the lessons, such as racial justice, gender equality, and our environmental impact, I aspire to empower students to question the world, explore it with wonder, and develop their own personal voice. With a new understanding and connection to their community and to humanity, through meaningful art and insightful discussion, I hope to spark life-long inspiration in the future movers and shakers of the world!
